ENG vs AUS, 5th Test: England Cricket has announced an unchanged squad for the upcoming final Test of the Ashes 2023 series at The Oval, commencing on July 27. Their aim is to level the series 2-2. In the fourth Test, England had a promising chance to level the series and revive their hopes of claiming the Ashes, which they haven’t achieved since 2015. However, unfavorable weather conditions, resulting in nearly two days of rain in the Manchester Test, led to the match ending in a draw.

During the disrupted match, Australia’s second innings saw them score 214/5, still trailing England’s first-innings score by 61 runs. Unfortunately, five sessions lost due to the persistent rain. At the time of the rain interruption, Cameron Green (3*) and Mitchell Marsh (31*) were at the crease. Marnus Labuschagne stood out as the top scorer for Australia in the second innings with an impressive 111, including 10 fours and two sixes. Only the second session of the fourth day witnessed any action, with no play possible on Day five.

For Australia, winning the series would mean a significant achievement, as it would be the first time since 2001 that they have defeated the hosts on their home soil.

England’s captain, Ben Stokes, has emphasized the magnitude of the fifth Test for his team. The decision on the final playing XI is likely to be made closer to the match, considering various factors such as player workload.

England squad for the fifth Test:

Ben Stokes (capt), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
