IND vs PAK: According to fast-bowling legend Waqar Younis, the Pakistan cricket team has shown significant improvement in handling pressure recently. He confidently supports them to secure victory against archrivals India in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, scheduled later this year.

The highly anticipated clash between these traditional rivals is likely to take place on October 14 in Ahmedabad, after the Pakistan Cricket Board reportedly agreed to move the fixture ahead by one day from the original date of October 15. Nevertheless, an official announcement from the ICC is still pending.

Before the World Cup showdown, both teams will also face each other in the Asia Cup, commencing on August 30.

“The lesser you play against a team, that too against a big team…especially if it is Pakistan and India, the pressure would be immense and tripled,” Younis told Cricket Pakistan.

Despite Pakistan never having beaten India in an ODI World Cup, Younis expresses his confidence in the current team’s abilities to perform well in the high-octane clash at the upcoming 50-over showpiece event.

“…in World Cup, we used to choke against India,” admitted Younis. “(But) Pakistan team have handled pressure in a better way in the recent past.

“We have match-winners, we have individuals that can win you matches single-handedly, including Babar (Azam) himself, Shaheen (Shah Afridi), Fakhar (Zaman) can do wonders. Then, of course, we have seen Imam (ul Haq) playing great innings.”

The World Cup will be played from October 5 to November 19 this year.
