India skipper Rohit Sharma has confirmed his availability for the 2024 T20 World Cup, slated to be played in June 2024 in the West Indies and USA.

The prospect of Hardik Pandya continuing as India’s T20I captain indicates that the talented all-rounder might retain his leadership role until the next year’s T20 World Cup.

While there is no official confirmation from the BCCI regarding Pandya’s full-time captaincy in the shortest format, he has been leading the side since the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

During this period, the regular all-format skipper, Rohit Sharma, and star batsman, Virat Kohli, were not part of any of the T20I series that India played after the T20 World Cup. This suggests that the team’s management is striving to build a new team for the upcoming showpiece event in the following year.

But a video of Rohit doing the rounds on social media seems to have cleared the air that the opening batter is very excited and looking forward to playing the T20I World Cup next year.

“More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I’m pretty sure everyone is excited. So yeah, we look forward to that,” Rohit said at a promotional event in the United States.

As the 2023 ODI World Cup approaches, Indian fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of witnessing the Rohit-led side ending their ten-year wait for lifting a major trophy on home soil come November 19.

The dream of lifting a major trophy has been a longstanding aspiration for India, but they have faced challenges at every turn since their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy in England, a tournament in which Rohit played a crucial role.
