WI vs IND: India is set to face the West Indies in the second Test match of the India Tour of West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain starting from July 20. As expected, India began the series strongly and asserted their dominance in the match. They are eager to secure a victory in this match and complete a clean sweep.

In the previous match held at Windsor Park in Dominica, West Indies won the toss and chose to bat. However, their decision didn’t work in their favor as they couldn’t capitalize on the batting-friendly pitch on Day 1. Though the openers showed some promise, they both fell quickly after Ravichandran Ashwin was introduced into the attack, and the rest of the team followed suit. Alick Athanaze, playing his first Test, was the only batsman who seemed comfortable at the crease. With Ashwin’s brilliant performance resulting in a five-wicket haul, West Indies were bowled out for a mere 150 runs.

In contrast, India made full use of the favorable conditions on the first day and piled on the runs. Both openers scored centuries, and debutant Yashashvi Jaiswal impressed everyone with a remarkable score of 171, earning him the Player of the Match award. India declared their innings after amassing a substantial total of 421 runs on the board. The trend continued in the second innings as West Indies struggled against spin and once again, Ashwin claimed a five-wicket haul. He ended the match with an impressive total of 12 wickets, playing a pivotal role in India’s resounding victory by an innings and 141 runs.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Queen’s Park Oval is inclined to favor bowlers over batsmen. Pacers, in particular, will relish bowling on this ground, benefiting from the pace and bounce it offers. The early swing can also pose challenges for the batters. Considering the conditions, teams winning the toss might opt to bat first, although the average first innings score at this venue is 251.
